KATHMANDU, MAY 18

Indian woman climber Piyali Basak, who had attempted to climb Mt Makalu without supplemental oxygen, has still been stuck above Camp IV on Mt Makalu, sources said.

Sources from the base camp confirmed that Ngangwa Sherpa from Makalu who was stranded in the high camp has however arrived safely at Camp III. He was rescued by fellow climbers.

"Piyali was very slow and couldn't move when she arrived at around 7,400m after reaching the summit point," sources said, adding that she was with two Sherpa guides.Piyali, who is a teacher of Kanailal Primary School, has scaled Mt Annapurna, this season.

Efforts are still underway to help her descend to lower camps, it added. Her two guides along with Ngangwa have already descended but Piyali refused to move, sources explained.
