PLA fighter held for bid to kill mother

ITAHARI: Police in Sunsari detained a PLA combatant on the charges of attempting to murder his mother and terrorising locals with weapons.

The Maoist fighter — Bhola Mehata of Dumraha-7 of the district — is also accused of brandishing his gun to scare locals in the village on Wednesday night.

Mehta had come home from a Chitwan-based Maoist combatants’ cantonment to spend a leave of 15 days.

According to Rajendra Dhakal, DSP, the arrest was prompted after many locals complained to police that Mehata used to terrorise them while firing shots in the night during his home stay earlier.

Dhakal claimed that he attempted to murder his mother, Sukanidevi, with a pistol during a land related dispute. He added, “We detained him according acting upon the complaint of the villagers and his mother Sukunidevi.”

He also informed that confiscated a pistol along with its two bullets, a socket bomb, four firecrackers from Mehata’s house.

They also filed a case against him on the charge of attempted murder and possessing illegal weapons, police said.

During interrogation, Mehata said that he had come home from the No-2 PLA cantonment of Tadi in Chitwan a few days earlier. According to the police, Mehata admitted to bringing weapons from the cantonment in the past. He, however, denied bringing any this time,” Dhakal said.
