Plea to preserve Tharu language
Tharu Valley Committee (TVC), a wing of Tharu Welfare Society (TWS) organised a workshop programme on ‘Tharu language and literature’ in the capital on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme Tej Narayan Panjiyar, who was also the chief guest of the programme, said that though this language is spoken in different tongues in different places, it makes similar sense.
The people of the community, though scattered throughout the country, especially in Terai region, can communicate to each other in their own language, he said. “May be some people of the community have difficulty in speaking their own language correctly in whatever manner they should be, which never makes sense that they speak Bhojpuri, Maithili or so on. It can be accepted that this language is some how influenced by other languages,” said he.
Pointing out an example he said, “ If somebody is found in drunk position, the same matter can be interpreted as he has got drunk in British English whereas that can be understood as he is drunk in accordance of American English.” So this is not the problem with this language only but all of the languages spoken throughout the world are facing their own kind of problems.
Central member of TWS Ram Ekwal Chaudhary said that the people of the community should be alert for the protection and preservation of this language. Pointing out about the significance of the programme he opined that such programme is certainly important for the promotion and progress of the Tharu language and its culture.
“We Tharus are rich in our culture so we should be proud of this, but the most important thing is if we people are not serious about its preservation we will be betraying in future time and our coming generation will curse us,” said he. At the present time the responsibility of promoting this language culture is the main responsibility of youth.
Participants like Janakraj Chaudhary, Shiyaram Chaudhary (programme coordinator), Binod Chaudhary, Chandranarayan Chaudhary (general secretary of Tharu Students Society), Bhulai Chaudhary (programme coordinator of TWS), Ramanand Chaudhary (president of TSS), Rajendra Chaudhary, Ram Panjiyar, Jagdish Chaudhary, Amarlal Chaudhary (a food technologist) and Nandalal Chaudhary had presented their songs and poesy on the occasion.
