PM ‘promises’ to meet demands of Badi folk
Kathmandu, September 17:
Three members of the agitating Badi community today met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at his residence at Baluwatar.
President of National Badi Rights Struggle Committee, Uma Devi Badi, coordinator and member secretary of Badi Movement Coordination Committee, Arjun Badi and Sanjaya Bikram Badi met PM Koirala this afternoon.
PM Koirala had called the representatives of the agitating people for talks while they were staging a sit-in protest outside the PM’s residence from 11 am today.
“Prime Minister Koirala assured us to meet all our demands and asked us to stop the protest programmes,” said Uma Devi Badi, the NBRSC president.
She added that the team told PM Koirala that they would not return until all their demands were met.
“We will continue protest programmes until talks with the government goes on in a positive direction,” she said adding that they would not stop their movement at the PM’s assurance.
The NBRSC is organising a sit-in protest at the southern gate of Singha Durbar tomorrow morning.
