PM backs FNJ’s drive

Kathmandu January 22:

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today said the government fully supported the campaign launched by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to end impunity in the nation.

Talking to an FNJ delegation at his residence this afternoon, Dahal said the campaign was a positive action taken towards preventing the rising impunity during the transition. “The government has strongly directed the local administration concerned to take necessary action against the murderers of slain journalist Uma Singh,” FNJ secretary Ramji Dahal quoted PM Dahal as saying.

The FNJ is going to organise a condolence meet to pay tributes to late Uma Singh at Sanchargram at 2 pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile, FNJ president Dharmendra Jha today said the agitation launched by journalists would continue until action were taken against those involved in the killing of journalists and

attacks on press.

Addressing a two-day mid-western regional meeting of FNJ in Dailekh today, Jha accused the government of promoting impunity. On the occasion, a fund of Rs 5,000 was provided to Laxmi Thapa, the wife of slain journalist Dekendra Thapa, while the FNJ announced the establishment of Dekendra Memorial Journalism Award.

Earlier, a rally of journalists led by Jha handed over a memorandum to Dailekh CDO demanding action against those involved in the killing of Thapa .
