PM discusses polls in two phases, amendment with UML chair

KATHMANDU: Adjourning the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal went to meet CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Sunday afternoon, in his bid to convince the main opposition party on holding the local level elections in two phases and amending the Constitution to address agitating Federal Alliance's concerns.

It is not known yet whether the CPN-UML leader, who had been saying no to any constitution amendment earlier, agreed to accept the agreement made by the government side and the Federal Alliance.

But one of his aides informed that Oli is holding a press conference at his residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur shortly.

The government side had made an agreement with the leaders of Federal Alliance on revision of the new constitution amendment bill and endorse it through a fast track from the Parliament, and hold elections in four provinces in the Tarai-Madhes region in second phase after increasing the number of local levels.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Dahal had consulted the Election Commission on the schedule of and arrangements for holding local level elections in two phases.
