KATHMANDU, MAY 15

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended greetings on the occasion of 2,566th Buddha Purnima today.

Issuing a message of best wishes on the 2566th Buddha Jayanti today, PM Deuba wished for world peace, co-existence, tolerance, brotherhood and fraternity in the world.

PM Deuba expressed his best wishes to all and wished that Buddha Purnima would inspire all to promote unity and mutual respect in the entire human community.

PM Deuba said, "I wish happiness, peace and progress to all the Nepalis and Buddhist communities at home and abroad on the occasion of birthday of Lord Buddha, the apostle of peace, non-violence and compassion."

"The full moon day of Nepali month of Baisakh coincides with the day when Lord Buddha was born, attained enlightenment and mahaparinirvan (passing away) took place," PM Deuba said in the message, adding that "This day has been inspiring all to move towards peace, non-violence, compassion, goodwill and self-realisation since the ancient time."

"Gautam Buddha is a luminary. His teachings and sermons are still relevant, useful and enduring for humans even today," the head of the government asserted in the message.

He viewed that the four Arya Satya (noble truth) and Arya Astangik Marg (The Eightfold Path) were still useful and worthy of emulating even at present.

"We should be able to follow the teachings and messages of Lord Buddha in our practical life and make our life peaceful and happy," he said.
