PM Oli basks in Nepal's 'Sessions of Achievement' and much more...

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the Federal Parliament's final meeting of winter session on Sunday, terming all the assemblies held till date since the inception of parliament as 'sessions of achievement'.

Recalling that the National Assembly and House of Representatives endorsed 126 Acts and amended 193 Acts over the course of three sessions, the Prime Minister said it was a remarkable feat of the legislative bodies.

"It makes me happy to acknowledge that the acts formulated by the parliament were made coherently and allĀ  differences were resolved through consensus," PM Oli said, "Our parliament is progressive and has executed its duties pertaining to revising laws and appropriation of resources effectively."

Likewise, the prime minister mentioned the 33-kg-gold case and charges of corruption labelled against former CIAA commissioner Raj Narayan Pathak and other officials and reiterated his commitment to curbing the corruption prevalent in society.

"We have made arrests and are transparent on actions against those corrupt," PM Oli said.

Briefing the Parliament on the inclusion of women in all tiers of legislatures, the Prime Minister said that it is an achievement in itself that Nepal has 34 per cent representation of women in Federal Parliament, 36 per cent in provincial assemblies and 41 per cent in local levels.

"When it comes to women's property rights, the government is not only aware to hand over rights but also to encourage participation of women in entrepreneurial ventures," Prime Minister Oli said.

Moreover, Prime Minister Oli termed the last year as 'Foundation Year' and said in the upcoming year will be the year of speeding works.

"There is no reason to be discontent, Nepal has trudged on a path of achievements," PM Oli said.

No-one has said 'referendum' and it is not scary: PM Oli

Recalling the recent 11-point- agreement between Co-ordinator of Janamat Party CK Raut and the government, Prime Minister Oli said that the agreement does not have a clause on a referendum.

"There can not be a referendum when it comes to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Nepal," PM Oli said, "No one needs to be scared and all issues will be taken care of through democratic practices."

Likewise, the prime minister said that all should be happy that Nepal does not have a secessionist force anymore.

'Nepal did not secure Federal Democracy in a lottery'

In a verbal retaliation against the demands for a 'referendum' on the reinstatement of the monarchy in Nepal, Prime Minister Oli said that Nepal struggled immeasurably to become a federal democratic republic and did not gain it in a lottery or in a gamble.

Dismissing the calls for a referendum on the matter, the Prime Minister said that Nepal will not go into back gear and annul its achievements.

"The government has time and again requested Chand-led outfit to resolve issues through deliberation but to no avail," PM Oli said, "The state can't allow the outfit to kill innocents, torch vehicles and hydel projects and rob people in the name of donation."

Clarifying that the state's ban on Chand-led communist party's activities was not against the democratic practice, the prime minister said that the state has tightened its grip on violence but not democracy per se.

"The state will detain and take actions but not go into back-gear anymore unless they surrender weapons," PM Oli remarked, "There is no point in carrying out acts of violence."

In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister thanked all the lawmakers and said that the voices heard in the parliament have made the government more aware of the pertaining issues.
