KATHMANDU, JUNE 1
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has warned that the contract agreement with the contractor will be terminated if the Sunkoshi Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project faces further delays.
While laying the foundation stone for 64 road projects under the One Election Constituency, One Road initiative in Janakpurdham on Sunday, the Prime Minister urged the development company to expedite the Sunkoshi Marin project, emphasizing that the people of Madhes Province can no longer afford to leave their land uncultivated.
Underscoring the importance of good governance and timely development, PM Oli remarked that procrastination in project execution is even more detrimental than corruption. He urged all stakeholders to act swiftly to advance development efforts.
He further noted that project delays not only escalate costs but also deprive beneficiaries, ultimately obstructing the broader mission of development and prosperity.
Once completed, the project is expected to provide irrigation to 122,000 hectares of land in Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Bara districts of Madhes Province. It will also generate 31.07 megawatts of electricity.
With an estimated investment of Rs 49.42 billion, the project's headworks sustained minor damage during last year's floods and landslides.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to the development of Madhes Province. He stressed the need to prioritize Chure conservation, agricultural modernization, healthcare, education, youth-focused programs, and other development initiatives-while maintaining high standards of performance.
He concluded by stating that efforts toward good governance would be reinforced, with rewards for diligent performers and accountability for wrongdoers.
