PM tells Health Secy to stop docs, who face fake certificate charges, from practice
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who currently holds the Health portfolio also, has directed the Health Secretary on Sunday to get the medical doctors, who are accused of getting admission to medical schools using fake academic certificates, suspended from the Nepal Medical Council and stop them from practice.
The Nepal Police's Central Investigation Bureau has launched Operation Quack to crack down on the fake medicos, including dentists and medical, and those who earned their Bachelors degree genuinely but had used fake certificates of ISc or +2 level to pursue MBBS and BDS.
Scores of dentists and doctors have been already arrested under the Operation Quack from different district in recent months. They face forgery charges.
Prime Minister Dahal telephoned the Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Senendra Raj Upreti, this morning and told him to do the needful to prevent the medical professionals, who are under investigation, from dealing with the patients, according to Prime Minister Dahal's Secretariat.
Prime Minister Dahal expressed his concern over the return of the accused doctors to medical practice after they were released from police custody, and told him to get them suspended from the Nepal Medical Council, the Secretariat informed.
