PM's visit a fiasco: Prachanda

BIRGUNJ: Unified CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' today said Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's visit to India was a complete failure.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Reporters' Club here, Prachanda said it was a great insult to the Nepali Prime Minister as Nepal was virtually boycotted by the Indian media. He said PM Nepal lacked people's mandate.

"Since the UML-led government does not have a majority, it barred a discussion against the unconstitutional step of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav in the parliament," he said.

"The agitation launched by UCPN-M in the parliament and street will continue until the unconstitutional step of the President is corrected," he said, expressing hope that a national unity government under the leadership of his party would be formed once the situation improved.

Stating that the party was imparting training to cadres so as to make the agitation effective, Prachanda said, "We are holding discussion with the government to prevent any unfavourable situation."

The unconstitutional step of the President was crafted as a conspiracy to shadow the peace process and statute draft, Prachanda said.

"UCPN-M is the most serious party to take the peace process to a logical conclusion and to draft the constitution," he said, blaming the old parliamentary parties of never being clear about federalism.

"Though other parties seem to have accepted federalism due to the public pressure, they are not raising the issue when the constitution writing is gaining momentum."

The Maoist chairman, who has recently been on a Europe tour, said European countries were attracted to socialism due to the world economic meltdown. "As the observation of the corpse of Lenin in Russia is increasing and the sale of socialist literature is on the rise in Europe, it clarifies that the Europeans are attracted to the theory of socialism," Prachanda said.
