Pokhara Tibetans to stay calm

POKHARA: Tibetan refugees living in Pokhara and other places in Kaski have said they will not organise any formal programme for a free-Tibet campaign following pressure from the local administration.

The administration in the district is on alert to thwart possible demonstrations of Tibetans on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the exile of the Dalai Lama. Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Koirala said the administration will intervene in protest programmes as per the government policy. A refugee leader, however, said here that a candle lighting programme will be held in memory of those killed in China during pro-Tibet demonstrations. "The administration has mounted pressure on us against organising protest programmes and not to hold demonstrations against China," the refugee leader said on condition of anonymity.
