Pokhrel calls parties to form parallel govt

Dang, March 6:

The seven parties must form a parallel government as all the alternatives have been exhausted, vice-president of the People’s Front Nepal, Lila Mani Pokhrel, said at a face-to-face programme in Dang today. Dang-based Sisne Media Centre had organised the programme.

“The independence of the judiciary will be in jeopardy if the Supreme Court decides to reinstate the Parliament,” Pokhrel said, adding: “If the King reinstates the Parliament using article 127 of the Constitution, it will mean the King enjoys special rights,” Pokhrel said, adding: “The formation of a parallel government is the only option left for the agitating parties.” Laying stress on the unity among democratic forces, Pokhrel said, “The democratic movement will be successful because all sectors are involved in it.”

“The Unites States of America is playing a double role. On one hand, it is not favouring autocracy; on the other, it is not helping the leftists,” Pokhrel said, adding: “The US is against leftists.”

“None of the forces can upset the present movement of seven parties and the agreement reached between the Maoists and seven-party alliance,” Pokhrel said. “The Maoists have expressed commitment to multiparty competition, human rights and press freedom,” Pokhrel said, adding: “The present situation cannot address the Maoist problem.”
