Police, CMC discuss security issue
DAMAK: Armed Police Force has initiated discussion with Bhutanese Refugee Camp Management Committee (CMC) to strengthen security in the camps based in Jhapa and Morang districts.
Pathivara Battalion of the APF today sought the suggestion of the CMC in Beldangi. "We apprised the security representatives of the latest security situation in the camp," said Gopal Gurung, spokesperson for the Bhutan People's Party. "We also discussed the security challenge following the killing of refugee youth KB Khadka." The security body is on high alert to maintain security in the camps, Ganesh Thada Magar, chief of Pathivara APF battalion, said after the discussion. "Entrance and exit of refugees in the camps will be strictly watched and the exit passes for the refugees will be regulated," he added.
The provision introduced by the Refugee Coordination Unit Office to leave the camps only with the pass provided has not been followed. The refugees have been leaving the camps at will, flouting the provision made after holding discussions with the representatives of UNHCR, the government and the refugee representatives. The security officials said criminal activities had increased with the rise in the number of mobile users in the camps. Exit and entrance of refugees in the camp after 7 pm has been scrutinised these days.
TP Mishra, chairman of Third World Media Chapter, however, said the administration was not serious about providing security to journalists staying in the camps.
An outfit called Druk Chituwa issued death threat to Bhakta Ghimire, former editor of Sandesh Weekly, a few days back.
