Constable fatally injured by taxi while helping drunk cross road in Morang
SURUNGA, JHAPA: A police constable who sustained critical injuries on Thursday while trying to help a drunken pedestrian cross the road in Morang district died on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Police Constable Ashok Khawas, a permanent resident of Daangihat in the district.
Khawas, stationed at the Kakarbhitta-based Area Police Office, was helping a drunken man cross the road when suddenly, a speeding taxi knocked him down at Kakadbhitta stretch of East-West Highway at 10 pm on Thursday, according to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Keshav Kumar Thebe at the Anarmani-based APO.
Khawas was admitted in the Birtamod-based B&C Hospital and Research Center where he breathed his last during the course of treatment yesterday, said police.
Police arrested a suspect Devan Rajbanshi of Mechi Municipality-7 along with the taxi (Ko 1 Cha 8456) from Kakadbhitta two days after the incident.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the case is underway, said police.
