Police destroy cannabis plants worth millions

KHOTANG: The District Police Office, Khotang, has destroyed cannabis plants worth millions in the western belt of the district in the recent days.

The Office confirmed that the cannabis farming done illegally by locals in 437 ropani of land was destroyed.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bidhyananda Majhi said that the police launched a special campaign to destroy the cannabis plants that are planted for commercial purpose by the local residents.

The police team destroyed the hemp plants in Durchhim, Halesi, Chyasmitar, Bahunidanda, Dikuwa, Dhitung, Mangaltar and other areas during a month-long campaign.

Likewise, police burnt some 90 kilogram of marijuana that was kept in the plastic bags in a jungle of Durchhim VDC. It is learnt that the marijuana bags were readied for exporting to other districts.

Police launched the campaign to destroy the cannabis as its commercial farming has shot up in the lands less fertile lands.

Generally, the locals in the western belt of Khotang district export the cannabis to other districts via neighbouring district Udayapur.
