Police open fire to nab armed burglars in Janakpur
JANAKPURDHAM: Police in Dhanusha district fired shots to arrest four persons who had broken into a shop in Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City-2, today morning.
The arrested includes two Indian nationals identified as Mohammad Iliyas (40) of Islampur and Ujir Ansari (39) of Bargeni, both in the city of Sitamarhi in Bihar, a northeastern state. Two others arrested are Gagan Patel (35) of Brindaban Municipality and Binod Prasad Singh (45) of Gaur Municipality-4, both municipalities in Rautahat district.
According to chief of Dhanusha District Police, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shekhar Khanal, a team of security personnel on patrol caught the burglars breaking in the shop red-handed. He said the patrol team had to fire three rounds of bullets in order to take control of the burglars who tried to flee the scene, at around 3:00 am today. Following the firing, security personnel immediately collared two of the burglars including Singh who was injured in his leg. Two others who fled the scene were also nabbed later, SP Khanal said.
The patrol team caught the burglars red-handed as security had been stepped up in the district in view of the upcoming Dashain festival, SP Khanal said.
Moreover, police seized a loaded home-made pistol, a few rounds of bullets and different tools used in breaking the shutter, SP Khanal informed and added that the CCTV camera installed outside the shop has also recorded the video of the illegal act.
The break-in took place in a shop in front of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City office in the wee hours today.
Meanwhile, a small crowd has gathered outside the shop. According to the shop operator, the burglars had just enough time to steal Rs 900 cash as security personnel arrived thereafter.
