Police seize 16 kg gold hidden in Gorkha cave
POKHARA: Police have seized an undeclared 16-kilogram gold hidden under a cave near Khorlabesi in Dharche Rural Municipality, the eastern region of Gorkha district, on Thursday.
A police team deployed from Machakhola police post in the district recovered the precious yellow metal this morning.
The news came to fore after police apprehended Dhan Kamal Gurung of Dharche Rural Municipality-1 from Banasthaili area in Kathmandu on Wednesday, after four weeks of dramatic disappearance.
The alleged suspect, Dhan Kamal Gurung, is a local trader at Arubagar in Kerauja of Dharche-1 in the district, had disappeared on June 26.
One of the locals said, "Gurung, had left the village after another gang tried to attack him on suspicion of his involvement in hiding gold in the area, on the same night. Earlier, Gurung had shared about his trip to Tibet, a year ago, to villagers.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Prasad Adhikari at the DPO, police have seized 16 bars of yellow metal, however, they are yet to be verified.
The cave is 66 kilometres away from the district headquarters, Gorkha, according to police.
Meanwhile, an investigation into the case is underway.
