Police sent to control dengue in Dharan

Sunsari, June 16

Dharan Sub-metropolitan City has launched a campaign in collaboration with security personnel and various organisations to control dengue in Dharan at the directive of Province 1 government.

Dengue, which started spreading a month ago, has not yet come under control in the city. More than 712 persons have been afflicted by the disease.

Acting Mayor Manju Bhandari said that they would destroy tyres kept at homes and in garages for a long time and also stored water in the first phase.

Personnel of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force and members of various organisations have started the campaign to destroy mosquito larvae and stored water, according to Acting Mayor Bhandari.

Mosquito larva and tyres kept at hotels and garages from Zero Point to Chhata Chowk were destroyed today.

Bhandari expressed confidence that dengue would be brought under control within a week. The sub-metropolis had concluded that mosquito of the black tiger species was behind the dengue outbreak.

Doctors and dengue experts blamed stored water and lack of awareness for failure to control dengue despite various measures and campaigns to check it.

Rapid Response Team Coordinator Dr Bijayaraj Khanal expressed hope that the outbreak would come under control as locals had become aware of the problem and the problem of drinking water too had dropped.

Dengue that broke out in Dharan has spread to Itahari, Morang and Jhapa.

The provincial government had issued directive to Sunsari, Jhapa and Morang chief district officers and local levels along with a work plan to control dengue.
