Cadres of political parties continued with the protests against the tabling and ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation compact today as well.

Today, the number of protesters was comparatively fewer in the street but they were more aggressive. Police said they also seized domestic weapons such as sickles and batons. Police fired 26 rounds of tear gas, around a dozen rounds of water cannon and baton-charged to disperse the crowd. Police also arrested four rioters from the protest venue.

Similarly, three riot police personnel and four protesters suffered injuries during the protest. Meanwhile, security measures has been beefed up in various sensitive areas of the capital including in and around the Singhadurbar and Baluwatar.

The coalition partners - Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-Unified Socialist, and Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal - reached agreement today after weeks of inter-party and intra-party deliberations to ratify the US aid grant from the Parliament.

It is to be noted that the alliance parties other than NC were opposed to ratification of the MCC deal while their sister-wings were staging protests on the streets against the same.
