Politicians, people speak out against extension of Emergency
Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) district working committee Nuwakot Ana Bahadur Pyakurel has said that extending the duration of Emergency is not the right way to solve the Maoist problem.
Stating the terrorist Bill recently passed by Parliament and the deployment of the security forces in the country are sufficient to control the terrorist activities. At the time, when the government has decided to extend the duration of emergency, in other hand, it has become the matter of talks among the politicians and intellectuals. The local level politicians as well as intellectuals have opined their concern against the decision of the government to extend the duration of Emergency.
In connection with this matter joint secretary of CPN-UML district committee, Nuwakot Govinda Nepali says that now to extend the duration of state of Emergency once more is just to add more trouble to the people. Pyakurel and Nepali are not the only people who are saying this but other local cadres are also looking against this decision of the government.
Meanwhile, the district chairman of ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Jagdishwor Narsingh KC looks very much reacted to the government for this decision. Now the Maoist terrorists are looking more harassed compared to the previous time not because there is Emergency in the country but by the great efforts being done by the security forces and active participation of the local people as well, he added.
In addition to the district heads of the all sisters’ organisations existing in the district level, the elected political representatives are also not in the favour of the extension of emergency. The mayor of Bidur municipality and an active cadre of CPN-UML, Nuwakot district, Thakur Prasad Gajurel says by ending the emergency the fundamental rights of the people which have been seized during the Emergency should be provided to them as far as possible. Sitting at the Parliament if the decision to extend the Emergency is taken without caring the situation of country out of the capital city is senseless say some local intellectuals.
