Politics of negation will weaken democracy, says Dev Gurung

Pokhara, April 28

CPN-Maoist Centre leader Dev Gurung today said politics of negation would weaken democracy.

Gurung, who is also the party’s Province 4 in-charge, underscored the need for consensus and cooperation among political forces at the party’s election assembly held in Pokhara today.  “All political forces should contribute proportionally and work in coordination to build the nation,” said Gurung.

“Agitations, dissatisfaction and violence may arise if the country can’t be established as a common land for all communities. The new constitution should be amended to address the concerns of the Madhesi community,” said Gurung.

He also warned that the country would slip back to past if the federal structure is not effectively implemented. “There is no alternative to consensus among parties to hold the local, provincial and federal level polls as per the schedule.” Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma said his party was focusing on the country’s prosperity through various projects.
