Poll code violation complaint filed
Khotang, November 22
Nepali Congress in Khotang has filed a complaint with the Office of the Chief Election Officer, accusing the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of breaching election code of conduct in the course of its election campaign for the upcoming by-election.
Nepali Congress Constituency-2 Regional President Tirtharaj Bhattarai filed the complaint today, accusing the ruling party of running afoul of the election code of conduct in course of its election campaign for the vacant post of ward chair in Sakela Rural Municipality-3, Khotang district.
The complaint has cited printing of publicity materials in colour, and a few other issues, saying the act was against the election code of conduct. The party has also informed that it had filed an application with the district administration office regarding the direct involvement of some local teachers in NCP candidate’s election campaign.
NC Khotang Constituency-2 regional committee issued a statement today itself and condemned the acts. The NC has also accused the NCP of trying to influence the voters by distributing development plans, donations and giving false assurances.
Nepali Congress has asked political parties to run elections in a peaceful and fair manner. It has also asked its own leaders and cadres not to be involved in activities in contravention of the code of conduct.
Chief Election Officer and District Judge Matrika Prasad Acharya said his office would summon the party concerned to inquire about the issue.
The upcoming by-election is slated for November 30.
