Poll holiday hangover persists in Sunsari

Chiefs of many government offices in Sunsari have not returned to their respective offices though 19 days have passed since the completion of constituent assembly election.

Due to their absence, many works are pending and the locals and junior staffers are facing hard time. Government employees said chiefs of many offices, including Sunsari CDO Prem Narayan Sharma, have been out of staion since long.

Though Chirinjibi Adhikari has assumed the responsibility of CDO Sharma being acting CDO, problems surface when it comes to taking decision on major and sensitive issues, the government employees said.

Sunsari district police office chief Yadav Raj Khanal is also on leave. DSP Rupam Lama said due to Khanal’s absence, tasks of controling criminal activities in the area, maintaing regular contact with people and ensuring peace and order in the district have been obstructed. “Work pressure has increased,” he said.

Even LDO Guru Prasad Subedi, who left for Kathmandu, has yet to return. Before he left, Subedi said he has to go to the ministry of local development in connection with some projects in the district.

Chief of district land revenue office Rohit Kumar Bhattarai has been absent for a week. “We are unable to take major decisions due to his absence,” Tirtha Raj Poudel, accountant of the office, said, adding that Bhattarai would be on leave for another week. Chief of Transport Management Office, Tanka Pokhrel, is also on leave. The employees of the office said they don’t have any clue when he will return.
