Poor visibility disrupts flights to Nepalgunj for last two days

NEPALGUNJ: Due to poor visibility caused by a foggy weather, all the flights to and from Nepalgunj have been halted for the last two days.

According to Civil Aviation Authority-Nepalgunj, all

the flights bound for Kathmandu and other hilly district yesterday and today were cancelled.

Suresh Kumar Ajad, chief, Nepalgunj Office, said that the Nepalgunj Airport

was completely shut. He added, “The airport shall remain closed for another two days.”

Meanwhile, Karnali including other hilly districts has received heavy snowfall as well. Air services in Mugu and Dolpa including other districts have been affected due to snow.

Transportation of foodstuff in the far-flung districts has been hit hard. According to the Food Corporation Office, Nepalgunj, foodstuff could not be reached to Mugu, Humla as air services were halted.

Yadu Upadhyaya, a staffer said that they have started transporting food via road transportation. He however, maintained that areas without road networks will have to face the brunt of no food.

Similarly, normal life of Banke, Bardiya and other neighbouring districts in the Tarai region has been affected due to cold wave. Workers in particular, who work on daily wage basis, are among the most affected by.

School going children have not been able to attend classes as some of the schools have been shut. Rickshaw puller Lambu Chidimar lamented, “Earlier, the municipality used to distribute firewood in the winter season but not this year.” Further, keeping hand to mouth had become difficult as he could not work due to cold, he added.

Yesterday’s rain added to the chill across the country, including its southern belt, compelling people to sit around a fire.
