Poverty alleviation project to be launched

Domestic and Small Industries Development Committee Office Khotang is all set to launch a micro-entrepreneurship development project for alleviating poverty in the district.

As per the office, they will be launching the project to alleviate poverty in the district by developing various micro, domestic and small industries.

Market Development Expert Ishwori Gautam said they wished to produce as many as 90 new entrepreneurs on the basis of merit within this fiscal.

Feasibility study of market and resources, besides skill development, entrepreneurship development, business development and expansion and facilitation of loan issuance, among others, will be launched under the project. “We will produce as many as 90 new entrepreneurs from the project. However, we are yet to decide the areas of entrepreneurship,” said Gautam.

Committee Chief Loknath Khatiwada said the project aims to alleviate poverty by enabling entrepreneurs to be self-employed through proper utilisation of skill, entrepreneurship and capital in the district.

A 19-member district entrepreneurship development committee has been formed in coordination with Local Development Officer Nishchal Raj Pandey.

The project will be launched in four VDCs in the first phase. “Those people who have skill and enthusiasm, will be motivated to develop entrepreneurship by treating agriculture as a business. The project has given priority to sustainable and optimum utilisation of agro and natural resources. Development of tourism prospects has also has been included in the priority list,” Gautam said.
