Power cuts to go up

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority will impose a 42-hour weekly power-cut, beginning next week. Presently, loadshedding is for 28 hours a week. According to NEA, the Valley denizens will face six hours of daily power-cut once the new schedule comes into force. Falling water level in major hydel projects has forced the NEA to take the step, though the government had committed to keep power cuts at less than 10 hours a week. Jiwendra Jha, Executive Director, NEA claimed that they had no option but to gradually increase the load-shedding hours, as dry season looms large. According to the new schedule, each blackout will be of a three-hour duration.
