‘Power demand growth plummets’

KATHMANDU: Electricity demand growth plummeted this fiscal against average 10 per cent growth.

The demand for electricity has remained more or less stagnant this fiscal at 1,276 megawatts, according to Prabal Adhikari, chief of Power Trade Department at Nepal Electricity Authority.

“Due to reliable supply, electricity that was consumed in charging inverters was saved and household consumers also used electricity prudently.” According to NEA, only 40 to 50 per cent of power consumed in charging inverters is actually utilised and the rest is wasted.
