Mahat accuses UML of exaggerating amendment bill, disturbing unityÂ
CHITWAN: Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat accused the main opposition party CPN-UML of exaggerating the Constitution amendment bill and disturbing the national unity.
Talking to media in Chitwan on Wednesday, Minister Mahat clarified that his party—Nepali Congress (NC)—had decided to endorse the bill to give an outlet to the country.
Stating that the implementation of the Constitution was a major challenge of the hour, Mahat explained, "The Constitution amendment bill was forwarded to address the demands of Madhes and bring all the political parties on board."
However, he admitted that his party failed to hold point-wise deliberations on the amendment proposal though a discussion was held among the NC office bearers and Central Working Committee members on the same.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the government would hold local elections as per the old structure if it has to.
