Mahat urges Nepali diaspora to help Nepal prosper
KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat has urged Nepalis all over the world to think about how they could utilise the skills, knowledge and technology they have acquired while living and working in different countries for the economic development and prosperity of Nepal.
He made this statement while addressing a programme organised on Saturday in the Thai Capital Bangkok to extend greetings and best wishes on the occasion of the Badadashain festival.
The programme was organised by the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA), Thailand and the AIT Nepali Society, Thailand.
Stating that Nepalis are now present all over the world, Minister Mahat called on the Nepalis, wherever they are, to move ahead with the sense of doing something for their motherland.
He said Nepal was now moving towards the phase of economic development through the implementation of the Constitution, noting that the world community extended support to and wished well for this campaign.
The Minister also urged the Nepalis to actively contribute to this campaign from their respective places.
He also maintained that the process of addressing grievances of different communities over the Constitution has already been started and the government would create an environment in which the nation would move forward on the path of national consensus and cooperation.
President of NRNA Thailand Khagendra Prasad Dhakal also spoke on the occasion. A large number of Nepalis living in Bangkok were present at the programme.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Mahat reached Bangkok on Friday leading a Nepali delegation to the Second Conference of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue.
He is scheduled to address the ACD conference as the leader of the Nepali delegation on Monday morning. The ACD Forum has 34 countries from Asia as its members.
The ACD had held its First Conference in Kuwait in 2012.
