KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 22
The much talked about statue of Lord Buddha meant to be installed at Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa, has arrived Thursday.
The white jade statute gifted to Nepal by Myanmar and that reached here via Hong Kong and Kolkata port has been safely stored at Bhairahawa Customs Office for the time being.
The making of the figurine apparently cost around Rs 2.50 billion.
It is being handed over to Nepal government by the Lumbini Garden Foundation, which was in turn gifted the statue by the Malwin Group, a mining company based in Myanmar.
The statue is 1800 kg heavy and 1.9 metre high.
Preparations are underway to officially 'welcome' the statue which will be unveiled by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on October 31.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that a high level delegation led by Speaker from Spain is also arriving here to attend the function.
