Preparation for PA meeting picks pace in Butwal

Preparations are under way for the first provincial assembly meeting of Province 5, which is slated for February 4 in Butwal of Rupandehi.

The first PA meeting is scheduled at the rented building of Butwal Chambers of Commerce and Industry next Sunday.

Governor Umakanta Jha has called the meeting at 1:00pm. Governor Jha said the meeting would open the way for formation of the government.

Senior-most member Bal Dev Sharma Pokhrel will conduct the meeting as a spokesperson is yet to be elected.

The chief of the team sent from the Parliament Secretariat Surendra Aryal said the meeting would take various decisions, including passing a bill on the interim work plan for running the provincial assembly and picking up a spokesperson.

The Provincial Assembly Secretariat is planning to recite the letter dispatched to PA members, pay tribute to martyrs, and enable representatives of different political forces to put their views across. The meeting will form a committee to draft the assembly regulation. Only with the regulation, will the total number of assembly committees in the Provincial Assembly be finalised.

“Renovation and management of the Provincial Assembly is going on in full swing. Preparations are under way to use the building of labour office as the office of the chief minister,” said Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Mainali. Likewise, preparations are also under way to set up the meeting hall with necessary furniture including table, rostrum, audio-visual aids, records and control room, among others.

CPN-UML’s Shankar Pokharel will be elected as the chief minister of Province 5. Pokharel, who was the common candidate of the left alliance, has been unanimously elected as the parliamentary party leader. UML will take chief minister, deputy spokesperson and seven ministries while CPN-Maoist Centre will take spokesperson and four ministries in the province.
