Preparations underway to reoperate Biratnagar Jute Mill

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Industry (MoI) is doing the necessary preparatory works to reoperate the Biratnagar Jute Mill which has remained shut for about 20 years.

Industry State Minister Resham Lama was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying that the MoI had made demand of Rs 250 million to the Ministry of Finance for the operation of the jute mills and preparatory works were underway to that connection.

The mill, which had taken around Rs 1 billion and 5.5 million loan, is yet to be paid back with its interest.

The jute mill will meet nearly 75 per cent of the domestic demand for jute. It will directly or indirectly provide employment to around 15 thousand people.
