Prez refusal to endorse NA nominees riles NC

Kathmandu, February 25

The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee said President Bidhya Devi Bhandari’s refusal to endorse the three names recommended by the Sher Bahadur Deuba government as members of the National Assembly was a violation of Article 66 (2) of the constitution.

The party said the decision of the Deuba government to nominate three persons to the National Assembly after the NA election had been held as per Article 86 (2a) of the constitution was a violation of the constitution. The meeting condemned the president’s refusal to endorse the three nominees.

The CWC meeting decided to hold election for parliamentary party leader on March 5.

The meeting unanimously ratified the parliamentary party’s amended statute. The meeting also formed a three-member Election Committee to hold election for parliamentary party leader and other office bearers of the parliamentary party under Chinkaji Shrestha. The other two members of the Election Committee are Bhishmaraj Angdambe and Nabindra Raj Joshi.

According to a press release issued by the NC, party Chair Sher Bahadur Deuba told the meeting that the next meeting of the party would review the party’s performance in the local, parliamentary and provincial elections and take a decision on how to carry out the party’s activities in future.

Party leaders Ramchandra Paudel, Ram Sharan Mahat, Arjun Narsingh KC, Minendra Rijal, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Arjun Prasad Joshi, Bhishma Raj Angdambe, Ananada Prasad Dhungana, Nabindra Raj Joshi, Chandra Bhandari, Dhanaraj Gurung, Pushpa Bhusal, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma,  Sita Gurung, Chinkaji Shrestha and Ramesh Lekhak spoke at the meeting.
