Prez stresses modernisation of agriculture

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has stressed the need to adopt modern technologies in the field of agriculture in order to secure economic prosperity.

Speaking while observing a cooperative-promoted joint farm in Maharanijhoda of Gauradaha in Jhapa today, the president said economic prosperity of the country is feasible only through modernisation and commercialisation of the agriculture sector.

“Our lifestyle is based on agriculture and there is no other way other than modernising and commercialising it to achieve self-reliance and economic prosperity,” she said. She also noted the potential of this sector in providing employment opportunities to the youths in the homeland itself.

The president had arrived in Maharanijhoda on a chopper.

Upon arrival here, she was welcomed by Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai, Internal Affairs and Law Minister Hikmat Karki, Gauradaha Municipality Mayor Rohit Kumar Sah, among others.

After Maharanijhoda, Bhandari went to Shiba Satachhi Municipality to observe another agriculture farm. Jhapa Constituency No 4 member of federal Parliament LP Sanwa, PA member Jhalaksingh Darlami and others briefed the president about the farm.
