President extends best wishes on 'Vivaha Panchami'
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers on the occasion of Vivaha Panchami.
In a message today, President Bhandari said that our culture -- which comprise diverse religious and social values -- is our priceless heritage.
“The ancient festival, Vivaha Panchami, has helped strengthen our fraternity, goodwill and tolerance. It has strengthened our national unity,” reads the President's message.
Noting that Mithila and King Janak have been eminent symbols of our culture since time immemorial, President Bhandari said Vivaha Panchami celebrations taking place in such a glorious site as Janakpurdham has its own historical value and will always boost our dignity.
According to Hindu tradition, Vivaha Panchami is marked on the day when Lord Ram of Ayodhya married Princess Sita of Mithila or Janakpur.
