President issues ordinance on Constitutional Council

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has issued an ordinance on the Constitutional Council Act.

As per the Office of the President, the first amendment of the ordinance on the Function, Duties and Procudes of the Council was promulgated today.

"The President, on recommendation of the Council of Ministers, issued the ordinance as per Article 114 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal on Monday," a statement issued by the Office reads.

 

It has been revealed that now a majority presence - three members - can decide on filling the posts and that a full house would not be required.

In the council chaired by the Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, National Assembly chair and leader of the main opposition are the members.

The Council meeting, despite several schedules, has been adjourned multiple times in the recent past in lack of quorum.

A meeting scheduled for this morning was put off till 5:00 pm as Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Sapkota did not attend the same.
