Prez concerned about delay in peace process

Kathmandu, March 24:

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav today expressed serious concern about the delay in the peace process and constitution-writing with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Dr Yadav had called the PM to talk about the contentious issues.

“The President expressed concern and dissatisfaction over the disputes on issues of national army,” said Rajendra Dahal, the president’s press advisor. He informed that the President also expressed concern about the delay in integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants.

The President also expressed concern about the government’s decision not to extend the tenure of eight brigadier generals of the Nepali Army.

“Since the peace process has not reached a logical conclusion, the government should not carry out any activity, which may derail the process,” the President told the PM. He urged the PM to keep the national army above any dispute. “It is the matter of the executive to take decisions, but no one should be troubled from any step taken by the government,” the sources said the President as saying. After the meeting, the PM hinted that the 23-member cabinet could be reshuffled tomorrow. The Ministry of Land Reform and Management and Ministry for Women, Children and Social Welfare are now headless. The PM is looking after both the ministries. The PM said that he talked about the operation of the fifth session of the parliament that begins on Sunday and the bills to be tabled in the House with the President.
