PM launches student enrolment campaign

Kathmandu, April 15

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today launched student enrolment campaign by enrolling Thinle Sangmu Lama in a school in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality, Mugu.

Taking the responsibility of educational guardianship of six-year-old Lama, PM Oli enrolled her in Buddha Secondary School, Mangri. Lama lives with her mother Chhiju Tamang. “Besides being enrolled at the school, she was provided with school uniform, textbooks and school bag,” said Kundan Aryal, press advisor of Oli.

Similarly, Defence Minister Ishwar Pokhrel admitted Surya Devi Rokaya and Puskar Rokaya at Nepal Rastriya Secondary School in Murma, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel admitted Karma Sangin Lama at Buddha Secondary School Mangri, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari admitted Puna Bahadur Kumal at Dudhe Lower Secondary School, Kotila.

In the same way, Former speaker Subash Nembang admitted Binita Nepali at Nepal Rastriya Secondary School Bharekot, Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi admitted Saroj Nepali at Nepal Rastriya Secondary School Bharekot, Radhika Shakya, wife of Prime Minister admitted Chiring Chanjom Lama at Buddha Secondary School, Mungri, former minister Janardan Sharma admitted Santosh Bhiyal at Nepal Rastriya Secondary School, Murma.

“Around 2.8 per cent of children aged between five to nine years are still out of schools. It is very hard for the government alone to ensure that they go to school. So the government had urged the politicians, social workers, public figures and celebrities to take the guardianship of at least one child to make the student enrolment campaign successful,” said Pushpa Dhakal, joint secretary at Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
