I have not struck any deal with anyone regarding implementation of the constitution

Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister

Kathmandu, August 28

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today claimed that he had done nothing wrong by speaking about the constitution amendment bill at a joint press conference with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held last week in New Delhi.

Briefing the Parliament on his India visit, the PM said it was not unusual to apprise the national and international community of a country’s agendas.

“We should take the concerns of our neighbours and the international community, who have been supporting us in our democracy, peace process and transition, positively,” the PM said, adding that implementation of the constitution by ensuring its wider acceptability was a national agenda.

The PM assured the House that he had not struck any deal with anyone regarding implementation of the constitution. He added that he would not accept interference of any neighbour in the implementation of the constitution.

The PM briefed the House about the agreements reached during his five-day state visit to India.

According to the PM, his visit succeeded in enhancing bilateral ties and goodwill with the southern neighbour. He said positive environment was created to effectively implement projects signed in the past. The PM added that both sides had agreed to finalise detailed project report of Pancheshwar multi-purpose project within a month. He said Nepal urged India to complete financial closure of Arun III and Upper Karnali hydel projects within the extended deadline.

He said the Indian side informed him that India had given final shape to the DPR of head regulator to be built on Tanakpur dam and link road to be built in Tanakpur area. He said he also discussed operation of Nepali gas bullets in India with Modi but the Indian PM told him that Indian law did not allow running gas bullets with foreign number plates in India.

He said he apprised Indian leaders, including the chief minister of Bihar, of the damage caused by floods and both the sides agreed to form a team of experts to address the issue.
