Prince Harry to visit Nepal this spring, reveals UK’s Royal Palace

Kathmandu, January 8

Britain’s Prince Harry will make an official visit to Nepal this spring, Kensington Palace announced today.

The Royal Palace said in a statement that “the visit is being undertaken at the request of Her Majesty’s Government and will be the first time Prince Harry has visited the country”.

“Full details of the visit will be confirmed in due course,” read the statement. Some British media reports suggested that Prince Harry would visit Nepal in February. “Harry will see how the country is rebuilding after the devastating earthquake,” Evening Standard reported.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Tara Prasad Pokhrel told The Himalayan Times that the British side had indicated about Prince Harry’s prospective visit when Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa visited London last month.

Pokhrel added that the date and other details of Prince Harry’s visit were yet to be worked out and the same would be finalised by the two sides on mutual convenience.

The Kensington Palace stated that there had been many royal visits to Nepal over the years, including that by Queen Elizabeth, Duke of Edinburgh and Prince of Wales. Queen Elizabeth had visited Nepal twice in 1961 and in 1986.
