“Probe committee cannot ensure justice for Nirmala”

DHANGADHI: A member of the high level probe committee formed to investigate rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Bhimduttanagar Municipality resigned on Monday.

Birendra KC, Under Secretary at the State Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Province 7 handed over his resignation saying that the investigation committee cannot ensure justice for Nirmala Panta.

Expressing discontent over the investigation undertaken by the committee, KC said in a press meet that he is confident that the government committee cannot ensure justice to the victim of a heinous crime shrouded in mystery.

The government committee led by Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali returned to Kathmandu after a 15-day-investigation without any information on the perpetrator.

Moreover, Mainali could not say more except pointing out serious recklessness by police in handling the case.

Likewise, the joint secretary said that he remains officially uninformed about KC’s resignation despite reports that surfaced in the media.

“We carry similar opinions over the case and have no conflicts,” Mainali said.
