Process has begun to declare Govinda Gautam martyr, says PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said the government had already taken initiatives to declare Govinda Gautam, who was killed in a firing, allegedly by the Indian border security personnel in Kanchanpur district yesterday, a martyr.

Prime Minister Dahal said so while addressing a delegation, which met him to draw his attention about the Thursday incident.

He also informed that the government already decided to provide Gautam's family with Rs 1 million and support for his daughters' education.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dahal said that any kind of foreign interference would not be acceptable as Nepal is an independent and sovereign country.

Claiming that the government was serious about the incident, Dahal said he had already asked the Embassy of India to look into the case.

Dahal informed Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi would inform the House about the incident today, and said the government was committed to take action against the culprit.

He further said Nepal would not accept any interference and attack on its self-dignity.
