Professors want key university posts filled

Pokhara, February 12:

Participants at a programme here today demanded that professors be appointed to vacant posts in universities.

Professors attending a convention on ‘Challenges of Universities in the 21st Century’ also demanded improvement in the academic sector according to the changing times.

The convention was organised by the Nepal University Teachers’ Association. The meet that began yesterday also demanded the dismissal of officials of the Kathmandu and Lumbini Universities. Participants said the officials were not working according to the sentiments of the Jana Andolan-II.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Dr Kamal Krishna Joshi, said: “A decision has been taken to open a South Asian University for Masters level students. The central office of the university will be in India.”
