Project to make brick kilns child labour free

Damauli, March 17

Integrated Harit (Green) Development Nepal has launched Better Brick Nepal Programme to render the 23 brick kilns operating in 12 districts child labour free.

The Project was launched as a pilot programme nearly a year ago.

At an interaction organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal Tanahun chapter in Damauli today, the project’s Country Director Homraj Acharya said their aim was to free children working at brick kilns and to send to school.

Integrated Harit Development Nepal’s Vice-chairman Ramdutta Paudel said the project was advanced with the goal of making brick kilns child labour free on the bases of five standards.

IHDN’s Director Raju Maharjan said their aim was to transform as many as 1,001 registered brick kilns across the country.

Acharya said that if Better Brick Project could be executed as a national policy they would attain their target within ten years.

The project aims to ensure the education of thousands of child labourers at various kilns.
