JHAPA: Property worth Rs five lakh was gutted after fire spread from a house belonging to Madan Prasad Pokharel in Bhadrapur Municipality, Jhapa, on Wednesday night.

ASI Phanendra Basnet of Ward Police Office said the incident occurred due to electric short circuit.

He said that cash, clothes and foodgrains, among other goods, were destroyed.

Police, locals and the fire brigade from the municipality had brought the blaze under control.
