Property worth Rs 10.5m gutted in Tehrathum fire

BHOJPUR: Property worth Rs 10.5 million were gutted in a fire that broke out in Laligurans Municipality-2 of Tehrathum district on Thursday.

According to Provincial Police Office, Biratnagar, a grocery store belonging to Chhedan Sah of Ramdhuni Municipality-2 of Sunsari, caught fire that spread to the whole two-storey house, at Basantapur Bazaar, at 5:00 pm yesterday. Goods in the store, as well as other property in the house, turned to cinders in the blaze.

The preliminary investigation showed that the fire broke out from a petrol container kept in the store for sale, police informed.

Police with the help of local and fire brigades brought the fire under control. Police also demolished two houses belonging to neighbours Renuka Khadka and Min Kumari Gurung to douse the fire, informed Province 1 Police Office.

In the incident, the store worker, Gopal Gurung (50) sustained injuries while trying to contain the fire.

Gurung who sustained burns in his hands and legs have been undergoing treatment at a local health centre.
