Proposal not acceptable: Oli

Biratnagar July 8

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today said his party would not accept the constitution amendment bill put forth by the ruling parties.

Talking to mediapersons at Biratnagar airport, Oli said, “The constitution amendment proposal brought without consultation with the opposition was unacceptable.”

Oli asked the ruling parties to withdraw the proposal and deliberate on issues related to statute amendment before presenting it at the Parliament. He made it clear that the statute would not be amended this month, as claimed by the ruling parties. “I will see how the ruling parties amend the bill. It won’t be possible within this month,” Oli stated.

Commenting on the NC’s success in the second phase of civic polls in Morang district, Oli said, “Perhaps, we failed to make people understand well. As a result, the NC won so many seats.” He attributed his party’s dismal performance in the district to lack of proper outreach.

Oli also said the ruling parties postponed the civic polls in Province  2, fearing loss in the election. He claimed his party would win over 50 per cent of local levels in Province 2 in the third phase of local level elections.

He alleged that the ruling alliance was averse to holding provincial and parliamentary elections at one go and asked all the parties to focus on holding all three tiers of elections — local, provincial and parliamentary — by January next year.
