Biratnagar, March 19

Stakeholders in Province 1 said that they have adequate prospects of attaining prosperity through tourism and agriculture development as the highest peak and the lowest land structure of the world lie in the province, beside other assets.

Participants at an interaction organised by Investment Board in Biratnagar today underscored the potential of water resource, tourism and agriculture for the province’s prosperity.

“If a large number of foreign tourists can be lured at least up to the base camp of the highest peak Mt Everest, the avenue of prosperity will open,” said Maha Prasad Adhikari, chief executive officer of Investment Board of Nepal. He also added, “The highest peak is the property of all and hence, introducing new trekking routes is a must.”

CEO Adhikari said there were other prospects of developing mono-rail in Biratnagar and Itahari-Dharan, up-gradation of road from Jogbani-Kimanthang, developing cable car for Pathibhara temple, Arun Base Hydro Power, Tamar Hydro and Arun III with 900 MW capacity, among others, to ensure the prosperity of the province. He urged the province government to explore new possibilities of development.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sher Dhan Rai said the government had launched projects with the aim of promoting investment-friendly tourism and agriculture initiatives.
