Protest continues in Dhangadi

Dhangadi, November 20

A demonstration was held in Dhangadi, Kailali, for the second consecutive day today to press the authorities to make public the murderer of Bijaya Thapa.

A resident of Dhangadi sub-metropolis, Thapa was found dead four days ago. His body was found in front of NAST College near the provincial chief’s office.

Today’s demonstration was staged by Bijaya Thapa Judicial Struggle Committee.

Struggle committee Chair Devraj Joshi accused the police of plotting to get the perpetrator off the hook. “If it was not for getting the perpetrator off the hook, why would they (the police) dilly-dally over parading the guilty even days after his arrest?” Joshi asked.

Police, however, maintained they could not parade the arrested man until the investigation concluded. “Though we’re carrying out our investigation as per the law, there is pressure on us to parade the arrested person at the earliest, which is not fair,” said District Police Office Kailali DSP Hari Oli.

Concerning the murder, police had earlier arrested Ashish Sethi of Dhangadi sub-metropolis on the basis of an FIR filed by the victim’s family.
